Thrills with Castle Feeling
Building a playground right next to a five-meter-deep drop? At first, that sounds like a safety nightmare. But when planning the new playground for the DAV Climbing and Bouldering Center in Gilching, KristallTurm® and the operator managed to turn this challenge into an element of adventure. The result is a special tower installation with a castle-like character and plenty of thrill.
A new adventure for the DAV Climbing & Bouldering Center in Gilching
What was once a simple playground with a few lonely structures has, since July 2025, become an impressive play tower installation. Inspired by the castles of the Alpine region, KristallTurm® has created an exciting new playground in the outdoor area of the DAV (German Alpine Club) Climbing & Bouldering Center in Gilching. Four play towers, each up to five meters high, form the centerpiece of the castle-like structure. Elements such as net tunnels, balance beams, and monkey bars connect the towers, challenging strength, coordination, and concentration at the same time. A yellow tube slide and colorful plexiglass panels add an extra splash of color to the playground.
Climbing 8 meters above the ground
A challenge during the planning phase: The terrain drops steeply in one area – about five meters down. Safety was therefore a key focus from the very beginning. A fence was, of course, essential. In addition, the play equipment needed to be as enclosed as possible to avoid fall zones and make full use of the available space. But instead of merely securing the site, KristallTurm® found a way to turn the height difference into a true highlight of the playground: a stainless steel net tunnel runs from one of the towers directly over the edge of the drop. Children can climb in mid-air – around eight meters above the ground. An adventure playground that truly lives up to its name.
The Eagle’s Nest – meeting place for young and old
Under the name Eagle’s Nest, the new adventure playground of the DAV Gilching offers a special meeting place for visitors of all ages. Together with newly planted green areas, seating, and sunshades, it has become a spot where people can relax and enjoy spending time outdoors.
