Climbing Structure IN Munich´s Weißensee Park

Climbing & Movement in Nature

At the beginning of 2026, KristallTurm® expanded the play and activity area in Munich’s Weißensee Park with a custom-designed pole forest. The climbing structure, made of 30 larch posts, provides an ideal setting for climbing, balancing, and playing. At the same time, the project demonstrates how working with existing structures can successfully be combined with innovative new solutions.

Compared to Munich’s iconic parks such as the English Garden, the Olympic Park or Westpark, Weißensee Park is still a hidden gem for spending time in nature in Bavaria’s capital.

In recent years, the park has developed into a lively meeting place. Spacious lawns, nature-oriented areas to relax, playgrounds, and sports facilities for football, basketball and more are spread across the park grounds, creating a place where diverse target groups and generations come together.

Nature-Inspired Climbing Structure with High Play Value

Since January 2026, a custom-designed pole forest by KristallTurm® has further enhanced the play and activity offerings in Weißensee Park. A total of 30 precisely milled larch posts form a truly distinctive climbing structure. Between them, climbing nets, platforms at various heights, a log bridge and a variety of round timber elements invite climbing and balancing.

The coating of the posts in different shades of blue provides additional protection against weathering while also turning the pole forest into a visual highlight within the green surroundings. At the same time, the pole construction blends naturally into its environment.

Building Within Existing Structures with Innovative Solutions

One of the challenges of this project was an existing ground foundation from a previous piece of play equipment. Removing the massive foundation slab would have meant considerable cost and time. A solution was therefore needed that would allow the foundation to be retained while still installing the pole forest with the usual level of structural stability.

KristallTurm® addressed this by using special ground brackets mounted directly onto the existing slab. These were initially movable, allowing the poles to be installed horizontally, then raised, precisely aligned in angle and rotation, and finally fixed securely in their ideal position.
Wood chips across the entire area provide the required fall protection.
